How we promote mental health

As part of their work on Mental Health Week, we visited the amazing Thames View Primary School in Gillingham in February 2023.

The day was led by our founder, Jamie Knight. Jamie began the day by delivering a fully interactive 30-minute all-school assembly where he wowed the children with some of his tricks. He then spoke about his own experiences with mental health And how being dedicated to freestyle football helped him develop confidence and improve his mental health.

How we develop good mental health

It’s probably obvious that our workshops help with physical health. Because they promote better fitness, increased body awareness, better coordination and improved balance. But what is often overlooked is the benefit to mental health. Because our workshops help with both social and personality development. Both of which are key parts of good mental health.

Because we help increase self-confidence, build stronger peer-to-peer relationships and enhance concentration. In addition, our workshops allow imaginations to flourish, teach the importance of being persistent and focus on a practice makes perfect approach. And importantly this is deeply transferable to other areas of life.

A freestyle football after-school masterclass

After the assembly, Jamie led a full round of workshops for all the school classes throughout the day. But he didn’t just stop there. Because he also delivered an after-school masterclass to forty students who didn’t quite get enough excitement during the day!

Jamie very much enjoyed the day: “The pupils at Thames Valley Primary were absolutely brilliant. They were always engaged, very focused and incredibly determined to perfect some of the skills I showed them. I’m pretty confident that I may well have met some of the freestyle football stars of the future!”
